New Delhi, Jan 17 (NationPress) Expressing confidence in a successful outcome, Karnataka State Congress President and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar asserted in Delhi on Friday that there will be no polarisation during the forthcoming Assembly elections in Assam. “We are committed to ensuring a full swing in Assam,” he emphasized. Shivakumar has been designated as the Assam election observer by the AICC.
He made these remarks to reporters following a meeting with national leaders at the residence of AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi.
The meeting included prominent figures such as Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, General Secretary and Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh, Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi, Leader of the Assam Congress Legislative Party Debabratha Saikia, Bhupesh Baghel, Bandhu Tirkey, and others.
Shivakumar stated: “We have gathered numerous suggestions. The PCC, the in-charge General Secretary, and other leaders updated us about the situation on the ground and the ongoing efforts in Assam. With our extensive experience in election management, we will collaborate closely, and we are receiving positive feedback indicating that a change is imminent.”
He further asserted: “The governance in Assam will transform, and Congress will regain power. A guarantee government will be reinstated in the state. There will be no polarisation, and we will communicate a clear message. We aim to engage with the people of Assam and share our initiatives.”
“Our party is united. Discipline is crucial. There is a vibrant influx of youth within the party, and all leaders are cooperating. This unity must be preserved, and that message resonates clearly within the Congress party,” Shivakumar added.
“Our AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi have provided a clear directive. We will ensure that there is a full swing in the state,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, unverified reports suggested that Shivakumar had a brief private discussion with Rahul Gandhi after the meeting regarding the leadership dynamics. However, this information remains unconfirmed.
Earlier on Friday, Shivakumar clarified that the matter of the Chief Minister’s position is a private discussion among himself, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and the party high command, and should not be publicly debated.
In response to media inquiries after his arrival in Delhi, Shivakumar made the statement when asked if there had been discussions with Rahul Gandhi regarding the Karnataka Chief Minister’s role.
When questioned about the meeting agenda with high command leaders related to the Assam elections, he replied: “It is not feasible to disclose our party's strategies. These discussions will occur only within the party framework, not publicly. Should any information be shared, our party's general secretaries will handle it.”
Responding to queries about potential meetings with high command leaders during this visit, Shivakumar stated: “I have come to Delhi with the goal of meeting party leaders. We’ll see how that goes.”
When asked whether he would meet Union Ministers, he remarked: “There are significant legal matters concerning irrigation projects that need to be addressed. Therefore, I will be consulting legal experts and Union Ministers.”
Shivakumar plans to remain in Delhi and return to Bengaluru on Saturday. His visit has sparked speculation amid ongoing leadership discussions in the state. He is optimistic about having a private meeting with Rahul Gandhi on this issue.
