Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, March 17 (NationPress) D.K. Shivakumar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, arrived in Delhi on Tuesday with plans to engage with the state's MPs and Union Ministers regarding the stalled approvals for crucial irrigation projects.
Speaking to the press at Kempegowda International Airport prior to his departure for the capital, Shivakumar, who oversees Water Resources, stated: "The central government has delayed the approvals for numerous irrigation initiatives in our state. Therefore, alongside Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs H.K. Patil and Minister for Large and Medium Industries M.B. Patil, I will be meeting with all Karnataka Members of Parliament to discuss these matters."
“We will provide a summary of our discussions upon our return. Our collective aim is to urge the Central government to make timely decisions regarding irrigation-related concerns,” he further explained.
"I will be in discussions with all parliamentary representatives from our state about the pending irrigation projects that require clearance from the Centre. It's essential that we present the facts and encourage them to advocate for swift approvals for these irrigation initiatives," he emphasized.
During his visit in New Delhi, Shivakumar was set to first meet with legal advocates, followed by discussions with Union Ministers and Karnataka MPs at the Karnataka Bhavan.
His trip to Delhi has ignited fresh speculation, with an official statement from his office mentioning that his return schedule is flexible. He is anticipated to meet with national leadership to deliberate on state politics.
Shivakumar’s camp is hopeful for an opportunity from the high command, particularly after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah successfully presented a historic 17th State Budget and achieved a long-held objective. Meanwhile, Shivakumar has recently marked six years as the President of the state Congress unit.
Shivakumar has expressed a willingness to step aside for others, while Siddaramaiah has indicated he is prepared to deliver two additional state Budgets, contingent on public support and the approval of the high command.
