Sydney, July 3 (NationPress) Authorities in Sydney, Australia, are actively probing a case involving gunfire directed at a residence in the inner-west of the city, with a suspected getaway vehicle subsequently set ablaze. A police announcement on Thursday revealed that officers responded to reports of shots being fired at a house in the suburb of Concord, situated 10 km west of central Sydney, around 1:10 a.m.
Upon arrival, law enforcement officials discovered damage to the residence consistent with a projectile impact. Fortunately, there were no occupants inside during the incident, and no injuries have been reported, according to the Xinhua news agency.
Shortly thereafter, emergency services responded to a fire involving a vehicle in the adjacent suburb of Burwood. Although the fire was extinguished, the vehicle was completely destroyed.
Preliminary investigations suggest that these two occurrences are connected.
Officers have established a crime scene at the residence and have initiated an inquiry to ascertain if the house was the intended target of the shooting.
This investigation follows the recent arrest of a 15-year-old boy on Wednesday, who was charged in connection with two previous shootings in western Sydney that took place in March and April.
In the March incident, 28 rounds were fired from a semi-automatic rifle into a home, narrowly missing a child's head. In April, 15 shots were discharged from a handgun at a unit. Thankfully, no injuries were sustained in either case. Authorities believe the initial property was mistakenly targeted, while the second was aimed due to the resident's connections with an alleged organized crime member.
Both shootings have been assigned to a police task force created in May to address violent crimes in Sydney linked to organized crime, which ultimately identified the 15-year-old suspect. He was arrested on Wednesday and faces two counts of firing a firearm at a dwelling and involvement in a criminal organization.
