Mumbai, March 22 (NationPress) The countdown has officially started for a pivotal event in the world of squash in India. The inaugural PSA Squash Copper tournament, featuring a prize pool of USD 53,500, known as the Indian Open 2025, is set to kick off on March 24, with the finals planned for March 28 at the Bombay Gymkhana.

The matches will begin on indoor courts, but the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals will take place on a stunning full-glass outdoor court, providing fans with an exceptional viewing experience. The JSW India Open holds special significance for the Indian sports community as it marks the return of a major squash tournament after a seven-year absence. Interestingly, squash will also make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Games.

The announcement of this high-profile event was made in the presence of Ramit Tandon (India's No. 1 in Men’s Squash) and Anahat Singh (India's No. 3 in Women’s Squash).

When asked about the upcoming tournament, Ramit expressed, “Playing at home is always special. In India, we often miss the chance to compete on our own turf, so I'm extremely grateful to JSW and everyone involved in making this happen.

“With the Olympics approaching, our PSA rankings are going to be vital, and having home-court advantage is something that top-level Indian players rarely experience. Since this is the largest squash event ever held in India, it's crucial for raising awareness about the sport and attracting more spectators. I'm thrilled to see more sporting events taking place in the country,” he added.

This tournament will feature elite Indian squash players like Ramit Tandon, Velavan Senthilkumar, Veer Chotrani, Anahat Singh, and Akanksha Salunkhe, along with skilled international competitors from France, Spain, Holland, Egypt, Canada, England, the USA, Malaysia, and Japan.

Both the Men’s and Women’s draws will include a total of 24 players each, with India's Ramit Tandon and Akanksha Salunkhe entering as the top seeds. Additionally, India’s Suraj Kumar Chand and Anjali Semwal will be the two Wild Card entrants at the JSW India Open.

India's No. 3, Anahat Singh, remarked, “This tournament represents one of my biggest opportunities so far, and being able to compete in India while facing numerous international players is going to be fantastic. For me, it's crucial for my ranking and a relief to play at home instead of traveling abroad frequently.”
