Hyderabad, July 31 (NationPress) The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has expressed its approval of the Supreme Court ruling instructing the Speaker of the Telangana Assembly to reach a decision within three months regarding disqualification petitions aimed at 10 BRS MLAs who transitioned to the Congress party. The party is optimistic that this will pave the way for by-elections in 10 constituencies.
BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) took to 'X' to acknowledge the Supreme Court's decision.
"We appreciate the Honourable judges for safeguarding the democratic framework of our nation against nefarious tactics," KTR stated, noting that he was among the petitioners.
The BRS leader expressed hope that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who in his 'Panch Nyay' promoted more stringent anti-defection laws and automatic disqualification upon switching parties, would also endorse this ruling.
"I challenge you to uphold your principles, Mr. Gandhi. I trust you and your party will not misuse the honourable Speaker's role to undermine the Indian Constitution any further," KTR remarked.
"It is clear that all 10 MLAs defected to Congress unlawfully and have been attending official events daily!" he added, extending thanks to the legal teams and BRS supporters who remained loyal during challenging times.
He is confident that by-elections will occur in 10 constituencies and has urged party workers to prepare accordingly.
"We have three months to gear up for the bypolls in these 10 constituencies. Let's get started, team!" he said.
BRS MLC K. Kavitha also praised the Supreme Court's decision.
She told reporters that Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar should act in accordance with the Supreme Court's directive.
"The Supreme Court's ruling that disqualification petitions against MLAs who switch parties should be addressed promptly is a significant advancement," she added.
BRS Parliamentary Party Deputy Leader Vaddiraju Ravichandra characterized the Supreme Court's ruling as "historic".
The Rajya Sabha member welcomed the Supreme Court's mandate for the Speaker to make a decision within three months about the disqualification petitions involving 10 MLAs.
He asserted that this will inevitably result in by-elections across 10 constituencies and demanded that the Speaker comply with the Supreme Court's ruling.
