Hyderabad, Dec 17 (NationPress) The Congress party has effectively dismantled democracy within the Assembly, asserted K.T. Rama Rao, working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), on Wednesday, responding to the Telangana Assembly Speaker's ruling, which rejected requests for the disqualification of five BRS MLAs accused of shifting allegiance to the Congress party.
K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) emphasized that it has once again demonstrated that Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party show a blatant disregard for the country’s supreme judiciary and the Constitution.
KTR criticized the Congress leadership, contending that simply posing for photographs with the Constitution is insufficient.
“Rahul Gandhi will be remembered as an ineffective leader who failed to uphold the very Anti-Defection Law introduced by his father, the late Rajiv Gandhi,” he remarked.
In his statement, KTR characterized it as a blatant exhibition of hypocrisy by Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party in shielding MLAs who have openly confessed to defecting for 'development' purposes.
The BRS leader pointed out that the Congress party is refraining from disqualifying the defectors out of fear of potential by-elections. He noted a rising wave of anti-incumbency against Revanth Reddy’s two-year administration, especially with the upcoming Panchayat elections.
“The people of Telangana clearly recognize that the Congress is postponing action against defected MLAs solely because they fear the repercussions,” he added.
KTR expressed frustration that the Congress party has continuously ridiculed the Constitution—from the moment CM Revanth Reddy personally visited BRS MLAs' residences to promote defections, to today’s decision by the Speaker.
He accused the Speaker of making a decision contrary to the defection petitions under duress from the Congress party.
KTR was astonished that the Speaker yielded to local Congress leaders' pressure, entirely disregarding the essence of Supreme Court judgments.
He asserted that the Speaker acted in a manner that was both undemocratic and unconstitutional by ignoring the stipulations of the Anti-Defection Law.
KTR affirmed that the BRS party vehemently opposes the Speaker's ruling.
KTR noted that while the Congress may celebrate a temporary victory in preserving the defected MLAs through legal loopholes, the voters in their constituencies have already rendered their judgment in the court of public opinion.
