Hyderabad, May 14 (NationPress) K. T. Rama Rao, the working president of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has publicly criticized the Congress government in Telangana regarding the demolitions occurring in Warangal town due to the ongoing Miss World beauty pageant.
The former minister took to X to express his concerns and directed pointed questions at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
KTR, as he is commonly known, inquired if there is a hidden agreement between the Congress government and bulldozer companies.
"What motivates this relentless effort to dismantle the homes and livelihoods of people continuously? Why are demolitions happening in Warangal?" asked the BRS leader.
"Residents are told that it is to 'enhance' the route for Miss World contestants visiting today. It’s a disgrace that you brand yourselves as a Prajapaalaa! After indulging in extravagant dinners at palaces and squandering over ₹200 Crores of public funds on sheer vanity, must you crush the lives of the underprivileged with your monstrous bulldozers?" he posted.
KTR insisted that he seeks answers from the unashamed Congress government.
This marks the latest in a series of criticisms from BRS towards the Congress administration over the Miss World contest. Leaders from the opposition party questioned the exorbitant spending on the beauty pageant, especially when Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy himself acknowledged the state’s inability to fulfill financial commitments to government employees or honor election promises.
On Tuesday, the state government hosted an extravagant dinner for the Miss World contestants at Chowmahalla Palace in Hyderabad.
Attendees included contestants from 109 countries, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, his family, ministers, and senior officials.
The beauty pageant commenced on May 10 and is set to conclude on May 31.
Following the dinner, contestants participated in a heritage walk at the iconic Charminar and shopped at the renowned Laad Bazaar in Hyderabad's old city, before departing for Warangal for their next event as part of the pageant.
