BRS Challenges Congress Government in Telangana Over Unmet Election Promises
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, March 16 (NationPress) The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is set to hold the Congress government accountable in the Telangana Assembly regarding their unfulfilled election commitments, as stated by the party's working president and former minister K.T. Rama Rao on Monday.
On the inaugural day of the state legislature's budget session, K.T. Rama Rao, along with party legislators, paid their respects at the Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial (Gun Park) prior to the Assembly session.
BRS MLAs and MLCs honored the martyrs and conducted a protest at the memorial, chanting slogans directed against the Congress government.
During the demonstration, BRS leaders called for the immediate action on the promises made by the Congress government, particularly focusing on the Six Guarantees. They also insisted that the government provide legal recognition to these guarantees and allocate sufficient funds in the state budget for their execution.
In a media interaction afterward, KTR emphasized the tradition of BRS legislators honoring the martyrs whose sacrifices contributed to the establishment of Telangana before engaging in Assembly sessions.
KTR vehemently criticized the Congress government in Telangana, labeling it as a betrayal to farmers and residents of the state. He accused the government of misleading various societal sectors by neglecting to deliver on their pre-election promises.
The BRS leader asserted that they will vigorously address these issues during the ongoing Assembly budget session to unveil what he termed the Congress party’s betrayal of Telangana. He specifically criticized the government’s alleged plan to allocate ₹1000 crore to Rahul Gandhi, while ignoring the needs of farmers in the state.
KTR recalled that the Congress party had committed to implementing the Six Guarantees within 100 days of taking power and promised to provide legal status to these guarantees in their first Cabinet meeting. However, he noted that more than two and a half years into their term, the government has not delivered legal backing for the Six Guarantees.
He mentioned that during the initial Governor’s address after the Congress administration assumed power, the state had declared that legal recognition would be granted to the Six Guarantees.
The Chief Minister approved this speech, and the then Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan relayed it in the Assembly. Nevertheless, KTR stated that the government has failed to meet its obligations despite numerous Assembly sessions.
He lamented the government’s inaction on crucial welfare programs for farmers, contrasting this with the BRS administration led by K. Chandrasekhar Rao, where Rythu Bandhu funds were disbursed to farmers ahead of the sowing season. He noted that farmers are now harvesting without any government support, and there is no transparency regarding when assistance will be provided.
KTR asserted that the BRS will interrogate the government during the Assembly session about its preference for political expenditure over farmer welfare. "This is why we are advocating the slogan – ‘Not Rahul Bandhu, grant Rythu Bandhu; allocating ₹1,000 crore for Rahul is a disservice to farmers,’" he stated.
KTR further accused the Congress administration of misleading various community segments. He pointed out that the government had pledged a budget allocation of ₹1 lakh crore for marginalized communities over five years.
With two budgets already presented and a third in progress, at least ₹60,000 crore should have been allocated by now; however, no clarity exists regarding this promise.
