Hyderabad, Feb 19 (NationPress) After a pause of seven months, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao visited the party's headquarters, Telangana Bhavan, on Wednesday to lead the party's extended executive meeting.

Approximately 16 months after ceding power to the Congress and experiencing a disappointing outcome in last year's Lok Sabha elections, the BRS is formulating a strategy to reclaim its footing by actively challenging the Congress government regarding its “failures” to deliver on electoral commitments.

KCR, as he is widely known, is poised to guide party leaders in fortifying the organization and devising a strategy for the forthcoming local body elections.

The pivotal BRS executive meeting is deliberating on the “anti-people policies” of the Congress government, the membership drive, the silver jubilee celebrations of the party, and organizational development.

Attendees of the meeting included BRS executives, district heads, current and former MPs, MLAs, MLCs, former Chairpersons of Corporations, Zilla Parishads, and constituency leaders.

BRS officials indicated that the meeting would thoroughly assess the shortcomings of the state government and establish an action plan to expose these “failures” to the public.

The gathering also focused on strategies to educate citizens and raise awareness about the promises made by the ruling party, aiming to safeguard their rights.

The principal opposition party is preparing to host a large public gathering aimed at challenging the Congress government over its shortcomings, coinciding with the 24th anniversary of the party and initiating its silver jubilee year.

KCR, who recently celebrated his 71st birthday on February 17, is expected to outline the party's initiatives for the silver jubilee.

On April 27, 2001, KCR departed from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and resigned as Deputy Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly to establish Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) to rejuvenate the Telangana movement.

In 2022, TRS was rebranded as BRS as KCR aimed to enter national elections. However, after governing Telangana for two terms, BRS lost power to the Congress party in the elections held in November 2023.

BRS, which secured only 39 seats in the 119-member Assembly, faced a significant defeat in the Lok Sabha elections last year, marking the first instance of the party failing to win any seats.

The KCR-led party encountered substantial challenges, with approximately a dozen of its MLAs defecting to the Congress. Several senior BRS leaders also transitioned to the ruling party over the past year.
