Hyderabad, March 11 (NationPress) The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has raised concerns regarding the Telangana government's choice to host the Miss World pageant at a cost of Rs. 200 crore.

He questioned how such expenditure could be defended when a case was filed for spending Rs. 46 crore on the Formula E Race during the BRS administration.

Rama Rao is under investigation by the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and the Enforcement Directorate for alleged misconduct linked to the Formula E-car race that took place in February 2023 while the BRS was in authority.

On Tuesday, Rama Rao took to 'X' to inquire from prominent Congress figure Rahul Gandhi.

“It seems that spending ₹46 crore on the Formula E race in Hyderabad was deemed improper and resulted in legal actions. But allocating ₹200 crores of taxpayers' money to conduct Miss World, a beauty competition, is acceptable!! What kind of twisted reasoning is this? Can you clarify, Rahul Gandhi Ji?” Rama Rao tweeted.

The Telangana government has confirmed plans to host the 72nd Miss World in May. This decision was made during a recent Cabinet meeting.

The Cabinet aims to organize the beauty pageant in an opulent manner, ensuring top-notch hospitality and a flawless experience for all participants and attendees. The event will take place over four weeks, from May 7 to May 31, across various locations in the state.

The government stated that the event would showcase Telangana’s rich cultural legacy, vibrant traditions, and contemporary progress.

Rama Rao is currently under investigation by the ACB and the ED for supposed irregularities in the organization of the Formula E-car race when he was the municipal administration minister.

On December 29, 2024, the ACB initiated a case against Rama Rao, senior IAS officer Arvind Kumar, and former chief engineer of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) BLN Reddy for financial misconduct.

KTR has denied any wrongdoing, asserting that he worked diligently to bring a prestigious event to India, enhancing Hyderabad's and Telangana's global image.

According to him, the goal was to position Hyderabad as a key center for sustainable mobility.
