Hyderabad, June 1 (NationPress) Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader T. Harish Rao criticized the Congress government in Telangana on Sunday for organizing Miss World 2025, claiming the event was merely for dinners and entertainment.
The former minister questioned Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy about the purpose of the beauty pageant and the benefits it brought to Telangana.
Speaking at a party meeting in Siddipet, he remarked that while the Chief Minister claims the state is financially strained, he spent Rs 200 crore on the pageant. “If the government lacks funds, where did he procure the money for this event?” he inquired.
In light of the allegations made by Miss England regarding inappropriate behavior, Harish Rao accused Congress leaders of bringing shame upon both the country and the state.
He alleged that two associates of Revanth Reddy acted inappropriately towards her, prompting her withdrawal from the event.
Miss England, Milla Magee, withdrew from the competition, citing personal and ethical concerns. She later disclosed to a British tabloid that the event did not meet her expectations of ‘beauty with a purpose’.
Harish Rao questioned whether the Chief Minister organized the pageant solely for dinners and entertainment with Congress leaders. He criticized Revanth Reddy for visiting the pageant multiple times while neglecting to check on farmers at the market yard.
The month-long beauty pageant in Hyderabad concluded on Saturday.
The BRS leader further claimed that only Congress members were benefiting from the Rajiv Yuva Shakti initiative, aimed at providing self-employment to the youth.
He also criticized the Chief Minister for altering the design of ‘Telangana Thalli’, which played a significant role in the Telangana movement.
Harish Rao questioned whether Revanth Reddy intended to dismantle the legacies established by former Chief Minister KCR, who initiated programs like Kalyana Lakshmi, Rythu Bandhu, and established medical colleges in every district. “Will you erase his achievements? KCR built a remarkable secretariat and erected a 125-feet statue of Dr. Ambedkar. Are you planning to demolish it?” he asked.
