Mumbai, July 1 (NationPress) Tata Motors has announced a decline of 8.47 percent in total sales, reporting 210,415 units sold during the April-June quarter of FY26, down from 229,891 units in the same period last year (Q1 FY25).
Both the commercial and passenger vehicle sectors experienced a downturn. Sales of commercial vehicles reached 85,606 units, reflecting a 6 percent year-on-year decrease, while passenger vehicle sales fell by 10 percent to 124,809 units.
Tata Motors also noted a 12 percent drop in domestic sales for June 2025 compared to June 2024.
On a positive note, the company's international commercial vehicle sales surged, achieving a remarkable 68 percent growth.
Girish Wagh, Executive Director of Tata Motors, remarked that the initial quarter was slow for the commercial vehicle market, particularly in heavy and small segments. He added, "There was a slight improvement in June, and we remain hopeful due to favorable monsoon predictions, anticipated rate cuts, and ongoing infrastructure projects."
Shailesh Chandra, MD of Tata Motors, expressed optimism about increasing momentum driven by new launches and a broadening electric vehicle (EV) portfolio, despite a generally subdued market outlook.
In the passenger vehicle category, Tata Motors recorded 124,809 units sold in Q1 FY26, which included 16,231 electric vehicles. Although total passenger vehicle sales dipped 10 percent year-on-year, EV sales exhibited signs of recovery toward the quarter's end.
The refreshed Tiago model recorded a 16 percent year-on-year growth, while new launches like the Altroz and Harrier.ev were well-received.
In contrast, Mahindra & Mahindra showcased a strong performance in June 2025, selling 78,969 vehicles, including exports, marking a 14 percent growth compared to June 2024.
In the SUV market alone, Mahindra sold 47,306 units domestically, achieving an 18 percent growth. This success allowed the company to conclude the quarter with its highest-ever SUV sales in a single quarter.
Mahindra also reported a 36 percent increase in exports during the April-June timeframe.
Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of Mahindra’s Automotive Division, stated that the company’s commitment to delivering value has fueled its robust growth, and they are optimistic about future quarters.
