Bhopal, July 8 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, announced on Tuesday that state-of-the-art technology is being utilized to enhance the safety of fishers and conserve fish seed in the state’s primary reservoirs.
He revealed that a pilot initiative by the Madhya Pradesh Fisheries Federation is underway, involving the establishment of a drone, GPS, and CCTV-equipped Command Control Room at Indira Sagar, which is recognized as one of the largest reservoirs in India.
“This innovative system will facilitate a swift response and provide support to fishers in crisis situations. It will also significantly improve the monitoring of fish breeding areas and allow for more effective regulation of fishing activities,” Yadav stated.
He emphasized that with the implementation of this Command Control Room, 24/7 surveillance will be achievable directly from the headquarters.
“Drones will enable real-time monitoring of the water bodies, while GPS technology will help track the positions of fishing boats, allowing for immediate assistance in emergencies,” he added.
Chief Minister Yadav further affirmed that the safety and welfare of the fishing community is a chief concern for the state administration. Adequate measures are being taken to bolster their protection.
The government is also planning to build at least five ‘transit houses’ on the islands of Gandhi Sagar and Indira Sagar, in addition to two ‘floating platforms’ situated in the middle of the reservoirs to guarantee the safety of fishers.
These facilities will offer emergency cooking areas, solar-powered mobile charging stations, and bio-toilets for fishers, thus enhancing their safety and living conditions.
The incorporation of modern technology is spearheading new developments in fishing and aquaculture throughout the state.
Moreover, to promote contemporary aquaculture practices, the state government has decided to set up an advanced Kevat training institute in Bhopal.
This institute will be established under the Fisheries Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF) of the Central government.
The institute aims to train the fishing community in cage culture, biofloc technology, recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), hygienic fish handling, fish processing, packaging, and value addition.
