Tejashwi Yadav's Optimism Grows for Rajya Sabha Seat After Key Discussion with Akhtarul Iman
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, March 11 (NationPress) The governing National Democratic Alliance (NDA) confidently asserted its intention to secure all five Rajya Sabha seats, yet a significant challenge has emerged following a pivotal meeting between Akhtarul Iman and Tejashwi Yadav in Patna.
This meeting took place at the residence of Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday afternoon.
After the closed-door discussions, Tejashwi Yadav broke his silence, stating that the meeting was productive.
He further mentioned that he had been invited to an Iftar event on March 15.
"I have accepted the invitation, and we are poised to win the election," Yadav declared.
Following the meeting, Iman echoed that the discussions were fruitful and emphasized that collaboration between their parties would benefit Bihar.
When questioned about his support for the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections, he noted that conversations had been optimistic and that a definitive decision would be made after consulting with AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi.
The NDA has nominated candidates for all five seats, including Nitish Kumar (JDU), Ram Nath Thakur (JDU), Nitin Nabin (BJP), Shivesh Kumar (BJP), and Upendra Kushwaha from the Rashtriya Lok Morcha.
In contrast, the opposition, led by Tejashwi Yadav, has nominated senior RJD leader A. D. Singh as its candidate.
The outcome of the Rajya Sabha election hinges on the strength of the parties in the 243-member Bihar Assembly.
A candidate needs the backing of 41 MLAs to secure a win.
While the NDA appears to have sufficient support to win four seats, it is reportedly falling short by approximately three MLAs for the fifth seat.
Currently, the opposition coalition boasts 35 MLAs, comprising 25 from RJD, 6 from the Indian National Congress, 3 from Left parties, and 1 from the Indian Peoples Party.
If AIMIM’s five MLAs and one MLA from the Bahujan Samaj Party extend their support to the opposition, the total could reach the necessary 41 votes.
Political analysts suggest that such backing would render the race for the fifth Rajya Sabha seat intensely competitive, substantially boosting the prospects for RJD candidate A. D. Singh’s success.
The final verdict will be revealed after the voting on March 16, but the encounter between Akhtarul Iman and Tejashwi Yadav has already introduced a new dynamic into the political contest for the Rajya Sabha seats in Bihar.
