Hyderabad, July 14 (NationPress) In a significant effort to ensure food security for all eligible impoverished families, the Congress government in Telangana initiated the distribution of new ration cards on Monday. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy commenced the program at Tirumalagiri in Suryapet district.
The administration plans to issue 5.61 lakh ration cards statewide, alongside the distribution of free fine rice at fair price shops across villages.
Every individual in each beneficiary family will receive six kilograms of fine rice at no charge. The government estimates that these initiatives will secure food for 3.10 crore individuals.
During a public gathering, the Chief Minister emphasized that his administration regards ration cards as a symbol of dignity and a vital tool against hunger.
He criticized the previous BRS government, stating that there was a lack of serious consideration for issuing ration cards or providing fine rice to the impoverished over the past decade.
The Congress government has also introduced an option to update records for approximately 26 lakh beneficiaries within the ration card system.
Revanth Reddy remarked that agriculture should not be seen as a burden but as a celebration.
“To this end, we have waived loans up to Rs 2 lakh each for 25,55,968 farmers, amounting to Rs 21,000 crore. In addition to the Minimum Support Price (MSP), we are offering a Rs 500 bonus for cultivating fine varieties of paddy.”
The Chief Minister asserted that within just nine days, the government provided ₹9,000 crore in investment support under Rythu Bharosa to 70 lakh farmers across 1.49 lakh acres.
“We pledged to purchase every grain produced, and within a year, Telangana achieved a national record by producing 2.85 crore metric tonnes of paddy. When our farmers thrive, Telangana flourishes.”
The Chief Minister also announced that the government will distribute two sarees to each woman in the 67 lakh Self-Help Groups (SHGs) during festive periods. Furthermore, the government is facilitating Rs 21,000 crore in loans from banks at zero interest for SHGs.
“We have initiated free travel for women on RTC buses and provided 1,000 buses to women’s groups for rental operations. We’re not only granting 200 units of electricity for free but also supplying solar power generation units to women. We’ve entrusted SHGs with managing petrol bunks in district headquarters and the operation of Amma Model Schools.
He also announced that the government plans to fill one lakh vacancies within the government by the end of its two-and-a-half-year term, having already filled 60,000 government jobs in its first year.
Reiterating that Congress will govern the state for 10 years until 2034, he urged Congress leaders to work diligently for the party's success in the upcoming local body elections. The party leaders should take responsibility for securing victories for Congress in these elections.
Revanth Reddy noted that the government is also implementing a 42 percent quota for BCs in local body elections.
He claimed the caste census conducted by the state government has set a precedent for the entire nation.
Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, Legislative Council chairman G. Sukhender Reddy, Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, and other ministers were in attendance.
