Hyderabad, May 12 (NationPress) K. Kavitha, a Member of the Legislative Council from Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), alleged on Monday that the Telangana government is contemplating the mortgage of 1.75 lakh acres of land belonging to the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC).
During a press conference, she argued that the government had transformed TGIIC into a public company to accumulate additional debt amounting to thousands of crores.
She asserted that a Government Order (GO) dated April 15 was issued to authorize the transition of TGIIC's status from a private limited company to a public limited one. This change was purportedly designed to enable the government to secure larger loans by accessing capital markets through instruments like bonds, debentures, or potentially an IPO.
Kavitha presented a copy of the GO, emphasizing that the government had not made it publicly available, and questioned what the administration was attempting to conceal from its citizens.

Kavitha questioned the necessity of mortgaging these lands and the rationale behind issuing the GO without informing the public. She called for the immediate withdrawal of this decision.
The MLC noted that despite substantial borrowings over the past 16 months, the government has yet to complete any development projects or schemes. She demanded to know the whereabouts of the Rs 1.80 lakh crore borrowed.
Claiming that only Rs 80,000 crore was allocated for repaying past loans, she alleged that the remaining Rs 1 lakh crore was spent on large contracts, with Reddy pocketing huge commissions.
Kavitha insisted that her allegations are backed by evidence. "If what I'm saying is incorrect, let the government publish a white paper on loans, repayments, and government expenditures," she challenged.
She remarked that Reddy had done nothing except settle bills for contract companies associated with a Cabinet minister and Megha Engineering.
Kavitha criticized the Congress for failing to fulfill its promise of providing a tola of gold for the marriage of every poor girl under the Kalyana Lakshmi scheme. She also pointed out that the government has not fully executed the Mahalakshmi scheme, stating, "Women are still waiting for monthly financial aid of Rs 2,500 each."
