Agartala, Oct 27 (NationPress) Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized on Monday the necessity to enhance the Kisan Rail service across the Northeastern states.
In a virtual assembly of the High Level Task Force on Agriculture and Horticulture for the Northeastern region, the Chief Minister advocated for the creation of a seamless system that allows for the unhindered export of products between these states.
Additionally, he highlighted the need to further improve the cold storage facilities associated with Kisan Rail. The meeting was chaired by Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Minister of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), with participation from the Chief Ministers and Agriculture Ministers of the Northeastern states.
During his address, Saha encouraged the branding of various crops from the Northeastern states that have received Agri GI tagging.
He pointed out that the soil in the Northeastern region, which consists of eight states, is incredibly fertile, and farmers could reap financial benefits through the scientific cultivation of appropriate crops.
Furthermore, Saha underscored the importance of maintaining close coordination with regional agricultural colleges.
The Chief Minister also stressed the need for special focus on exporting local products to both national and international markets through cluster-based production and marketing.
During the discussion, Minister Scindia commended Sikkim's organic farming model and suggested its adoption in other states within the region. Numerous senior officials from various Northeastern states attended the virtual meeting.
The DoNER ministry had established several High-Level Task Forces to pinpoint essential interventions and create actionable strategies for the integrated development of the North East Economic Corridor.
The formation of these Task Forces followed the 72nd plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC), which took place in Agartala last November, presided over by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
