Kolkata, Sep 14 (NationPress) In a devastating turn of events, three young sibling children, aged between seven and nine, tragically lost their lives in a fire while they were asleep, according to local police reports.
This heart-wrenching incident occurred early Sunday morning in Bhagwangola, located in West Bengal's Murshidabad district.
Among the victims were twin brothers and their infant sister.
The police revealed that a fire erupted in the residence of a man named Shayan Sheikh, who was not present at the time.
His wife, Sarjeena Bibi, was sleeping alongside her twin sons, Sahil Sheikh (9), Adil Sheikh (9), and their newborn daughter Sajida Khatun (6).
Sarjeena was suddenly jolted awake by the sounds of screaming nearby.
Upon realizing the house was engulfed in smoke, she hurriedly exited.
Tragically, she could not return in time, and the flames consumed the house.
The three sleeping children were unable to escape and perished in the blaze.
Firefighters arrived shortly after and extinguished the flames.
Once the fire was under control, the children were found inside in a severely burnt state.
They were rushed to the Nashipur primary health center, where they were pronounced dead upon arrival.
"Preliminary investigations indicate that a short circuit ignited the fire. Additionally, the flames spread to the huts of Shayan Sheikh's siblings, Swapan and Nayan, resulting in the destruction of their homes as well. The loss of the three children is tragic," stated a senior police officer from Murshidabad district.
Local MLA Reyat Hossain Sarkar visited the site after learning of the incident.
"The fire broke out around 1 a.m. Sunday. All three houses were reduced to ashes. The police will investigate the cause, but the loss of these three children is heartbreaking. We stand with the grieving family and will provide assistance in every way possible," expressed Sarkar.
