What Song Inspired Travis Scott's Rap Career?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, Jan 30 (NationPress) Rapper Travis Scott has disclosed the track that awakened his aspirations as a rapper. He stated that Kid Cudi's song ‘Soundtrack 2 My Life’ inspired him to believe that he could "possibly make it" in the music industry.
The 34-year-old artist has consistently praised the Pursuit of Happiness creator, and he has now emphasized the significance of this track from the 2009 album Man on the Moon: The End of Day, as reported by ‘Female First UK’.
In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, he shared, "It’s just the soundtrack to my life. From start to finish, I felt like we were brothers or something. We lead remarkably similar lives. I think that song dropped in ’09 when I was a senior in high school. I thought, ‘You know what, I could probably make it’.”
He further noted, “People need to recognize that Cudi was releasing albums and making waves. For me, it was eye-opening to see how many people connected with his music.”
Scott fondly remembers one of his earliest concerts, where Cudi, now 42, headlined with Asher Roth as the opening act.
He recounted, "He had this LED screen, presenting a black-and-white visual, and he stepped out from it. I looked around and noticed how engaged the audience was with his narrative. I thought, ‘Okay, perhaps people will connect with my story too’.”
The rapper, whose real name is Jacques Bermon Webster II, took the ‘Scott’ from Cudi's real name, Scott Mescudi. The two first collaborated on the 2016 track ‘Thru The Late Night’ from Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight. Over the years, they have worked together on multiple projects including THE SCOTTS, LOOOVE, Baptized in Fire, Get Off Me, and At The Party. In 2019, Travis shared what he found so motivating about Cudi.
