Is Delhi Interference Stalling Alliance Talks for TVK Ahead of TN Elections?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Jan 27 (NationPress) The emerging Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has been forced to declare an independent run in the forthcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. On Tuesday, they expressed their primary concern regarding the absence of alliance partners.
Senior figure K.A. Sengottaiyan indirectly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming that its influence at the national level is hindering alliance discussions within the state.
During a press interaction in Coimbatore, Sengottaiyan, who leads TVK’s top administrative committee, alleged that every time alliance discussions commence, there is an unwelcome “interference from Delhi.”
When asked if expelled AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam could join TVK, he noted that whenever alliance talks are in play, “those from Delhi intervene,” suggesting that speculation on such matters is futile.
He rejected claims that TVK was disheartened by AMMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran's alignment with the National Democratic Alliance, asserting that Dhinakaran had initially considered collaborating with TVK but shifted his stance due to the current political climate—hinting at pressure from the BJP.
Regarding rumors of PMK founder S. Ramadoss negotiating with TVK, he acknowledged hearing similar stories and added mysteriously, “Let good things happen.”
In response to actor-politician Vijay’s comments that the AIADMK has neglected the legacy of C. N. Annadurai, Sengottaiyan stated that both the DMK and AIADMK had deviated from Anna’s principles.
He disclosed that he departed from the AIADMK because it had disregarded “Amma, Thalaivar, and Anna,” accusing the party of not even showcasing portraits of its revered leaders at public functions—his primary dissatisfaction with party chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami, which ultimately led to his exit.
Commenting on Palaniswami’s earlier statement at a rally that TVK's flag was visible at his meeting, Sengottaiyan remarked that this reflects expectations that are no longer valid.
He charged that AIADMK’s ministers and IT wing have been targeting TVK instead of highlighting alleged wrongdoings by the DMK, referencing the ‘Panaiyur Panniyar’ assault on Vijay, claiming this indicates that the AIADMK is functioning as the DMK’s “B team.”
Addressing corruption allegations against him, Sengottaiyan stated that courts have exonerated him from all accusations, asserting that these charges were politically motivated. He warned of legal consequences for anyone who continues to make such claims.
