Chennai, Dec 1 (NationPress) Expelled AIADMK leader K.A. Sengottaiyan has intensified efforts to draw dissatisfied AIADMK members into actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) after his unexpected political shift. Insiders within TVK reveal that Sengottaiyan is actively reaching out to second- and third-tier AIADMK members who feel sidelined by the current leadership.
His message to these members is straightforward: TVK provides a new political arena at a time when many are doubting the AIADMK’s internal trajectory.
The entry of Sengottaiyan into TVK has surprised political analysts, particularly since many believed he might align with T.T.V. Dhinakaran or former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam.
His alignment with Vijay is now viewed within TVK as a strategic initiative to recruit significant AIADMK figures with substantial regional and caste influence.
After his induction ceremony with Vijay, TVK appointed Sengottaiyan as the chief coordinator of its high-level administrative committee and as organizing secretary for the influential Kongu region, which includes Coimbatore, Erode, Nilgiris, and Tiruppur. This area is a traditional AIADMK bastion, and Sengottaiyan’s extensive connections there are considered a strategic advantage for TVK.
Sources indicate that with the AIADMK general council meeting set for December 10, Sengottaiyan is quickly trying to capitalize on the existing discontent.
TVK believes that incorporating well-known political figures with local influence could greatly enhance its organizational reach ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
However, the AIADMK has sought to downplay the impact of Sengottaiyan's outreach. Party spokesperson Kovai Sathyan emphasized that the cadre remains firmly dedicated.
“The AIADMK is built on loyalty and accountability,” he stated. “Those who have not fulfilled their responsibilities were sidelined. Even if Sengottaiyan approaches AIADMK members, those considering leaving are mostly nearing retirement. No young person who sees a future here will depart. Our party is not dynastic.”
As the general council meeting approaches, political analysts suggest that Sengottaiyan’s maneuvers may challenge AIADMK’s internal cohesion. Whether these behind-the-scenes activities lead to defections or whether the AIADMK can manage the growing dissatisfaction remains a crucial point of interest in Tamil Nadu’s political scene.
