Chennai, December 21 (NationPress) In a calculated political strategy leading up to the 2026 Assembly elections, actor-politician Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has decided to ramp up its grassroots efforts within key AIADMK bastions, marking a definitive attempt to redefine the Opposition landscape in Tamil Nadu.
This decision was reached during a high-level meeting led by party founder and president Vijay at his residence in Pattinapakkam, Chennai, on Saturday.
Key party members, including N. Anand, K.A. Sengottaiyan, Aadhav Arjuna, and K.G. Arunraj, were part of the three-hour dialogue, which concentrated on strengthening the party’s organizational framework and appealing directly to the traditional electorate of the AIADMK.
Party insiders suggest that TVK perceives the recent decline of the AIADMK post-electoral losses as having created a “political vacuum” in numerous districts where the Dravidian party previously enjoyed unchallenged support.
TVK intends to exploit this opportunity by invoking the legacy and popularity of former Chief Ministers MG Ramachandran and J. Jayalalithaa, who continue to resonate with the sentiments of countless AIADMK supporters and followers.
As part of their strategy, TVK plans to host a significant public rally in Salem in January 2026. The location holds symbolic importance as it is the stronghold of AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami.
This move highlights the party’s intent to challenge the AIADMK directly in its own territory while gauging grassroots support for Vijay’s political entry.
A senior party leader indicated that the discussions also included the immediate political agenda, mentioning that Vijay would be traveling abroad later this month to promote his upcoming film, 'Jana Nayagan', ahead of its release during Pongal.
“With his international trip on the horizon, we assessed the next steps to enhance organizational structures and mobilization at the grassroots. While our primary opponent is the DMK, we believe that AIADMK voters are looking at Vijay with renewed optimism,” the leader stated.
Furthermore, the meeting resolved to establish essential committees, including one for negotiating electoral alliances and another to draft the party’s manifesto for the elections.
Leaders also reviewed the draft electoral rolls from the Special Intensive Revision and instructed party workers to verify entries, assist omitted voters in securing their inclusion, and ensure maximum voter registration before the elections.
In the meantime, TVK has temporarily relieved Namakkal (east) district secretary J.J. Senthilnathan following the emergence of a controversial video on social media. N. Anand stated that Vijay ordered a prompt inquiry and promised strict action based on the findings.
