Chennai, Nov 27 (NationPress) K. A. Sengottaiyan, a former Minister of Tamil Nadu and a nine-time MLA, has officially joined Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), marking the end of his long-standing association with the AIADMK. This transition comes shortly after his expulsion from the AIADMK by General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, following his efforts to reunite expelled party members, which sparked significant internal discord.
Sengottaiyan, visibly upset by his expulsion, resigned from his MLA position representing Gobichettipalayam and joined TVK in the presence of Vijay at the Panayur headquarters.
On Wednesday, he visited the Secretariat in Chennai, where he met with Speaker M. Appavu to officially submit his resignation. His farewell from the AIADMK was poignant; he drove in a car adorned with the party's flag, had an AIADMK flag tattooed on his arm, and carried a photo of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in his pocket, highlighting the emotional impact of his departure.
Later that day, Vijay engaged in discussions with TVK leaders Bussy Anand, Aadhav Arjuna, and Nirmal Kumar at the Pattinapakkam office.
At around 4:30 p.m., Sengottaiyan met Vijay for nearly two hours, and the details of their conversation remained undisclosed as neither party made any comments afterward.
According to sources, the discussions took place in two segments. The first involved Vijay, Sengottaiyan, strategist John Arockiaswamy, Bussy Anand, and Aadhav Arjuna.
The second, more decisive phase, included only Vijay, Sengottaiyan, and John Arockiaswamy, during which key decisions were made.
Reports suggest that Sengottaiyan is poised to assume a significant organizational role within TVK.
Insiders indicate he will be appointed as a coordinator, particularly focusing on the influential Kongu region, where he has maintained considerable influence for years.
He is expected to report directly to Vijay, bypassing other leadership tiers, a rare privilege within the party’s framework. Strategic decisions concerning the Kongu area will be made in collaboration with strategist John Arockiaswamy.
TVK leadership believes that Sengottaiyan's inclusion will greatly enhance the party's prospects for the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.
More than 500 supporters, including former MP Sathyabama, are also anticipated to join TVK alongside him.
Vijay is expected to visit an indoor venue in Erode, Sengottaiyan’s home region, to engage with the public shortly, reflecting the party’s growing focus on this area. Further announcements regarding Sengottaiyan’s official duties within TVK are anticipated soon.
