Itanagar, March 3 (NationPress) A significant member of the United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) has voluntarily surrendered to security personnel in Khonsa, located in the Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday, according to official reports.

A spokesperson for the defense stated that following reliable intelligence regarding the presence of a prominent ULFA (I) cadre in the Horu Chinghan region, a targeted operation was initiated by the Khonsa Battalion of the Assam Rifles from its Company Operating Base (COB) at Noglo.

Upon arriving at the suspected site, operatives were mobilized to establish communication with the insurgent and encourage him to surrender, as stated by the spokesman.

Through consistent operational pressure and ongoing dialogue, the insurgent was eventually persuaded to abandon violence and reintegrate into society. The negotiations were fruitful, leading the insurgent to agree to disarm. He was later taken into custody at COB Noglo.

The individual who surrendered has been identified as self-proclaimed 2nd Lieutenant Bitul Baruah (31), affiliated with the ULFA (I) faction.

During the surrender, he handed over a .40 caliber pistol along with a magazine and two live rounds of .40 caliber ammunition.

According to an official statement, this successful surrender highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations and the compassionate, persuasive strategy employed by the Khonsa Battalion of the Assam Rifles.
