Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, Feb 24 (NationPress) The police in Hyderabad apprehended two individuals involved in an interstate robbery on Tuesday, who had stolen Rs. 6 lakh from a businessman while brandishing firearms on January 31.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Task Force, Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath, confirmed the arrest of these offenders, both originally from Uttar Pradesh.
The robbery took place near the SBI ATM at Koti, located in the center of the city. The assailants forcibly detained the victim, assaulted him with a homemade firearm, and made off with his cash.
The suspects have been identified as Furkhan Ahmed, 36, from Saharanpur in UP, and Taiyyab Tyagi, 30, a cab driver residing in Shaheen Nagar, Hyderabad, originally from Muzaffarnagar.
The police recovered a homemade pistol, 35 live rounds, two magazines, Rs 2.38 lakh in cash, and two mobile phones from the suspects.
Five additional suspects—Faheem Ahmed, Naushad, Abid, Danish Tyagi, and Mohd Matlub—are currently on the run.
The teams from the Commissioner’s Task Force, operating in the Secunderabad and Khairatabad Zones, along with the Sultan Bazar police, were responsible for the arrests.
The DCP noted that Furkhan Ahmed has prior involvement in eight criminal cases in Uttar Pradesh, while Taiyyab Tyagi has one case against him.
According to police reports, cab driver Taiyyab Tyagi frequently observed passengers depositing substantial amounts of cash at ATM machines in the Abids, Koti, and Nampally areas during his early morning shifts. He devised a robbery plan and confided in his uncle Naushad and cousin Danish Tyagi. Naushad recommended including Abid, Furkhan, and Faheem Ahmed in the scheme.
Furkhan, Abid, and Faheem traveled to Hyderabad armed with homemade firearms. On January 31, Taiyyab and Abid scouted the Nampally Railway Station to monitor their target, while Furkhan and Faheem waited at the Koti SBI ATM with weapons.
Upon entering the ATM, they threatened the victim with the firearm, demanding his cash. In the ensuing struggle, Furkhan fired a shot at the floor and another at the victim’s leg. They seized his cash bag and two-wheeler before fleeing the scene.
After the robbery, the suspects regrouped in Shaheen Nagar, Chandrayangutta, where they counted their stolen cash in front of Mohd Matlub, Taiyyab’s uncle. They then dispersed back to their respective hometowns.
In response to the robbery, six special teams were formed to investigate the case. Acting on reliable information, the police apprehended the two suspects near Shaheen Nagar on Tuesday.
