Mumbai, March 21 (NationPress) - Javelin athletes from Uttar Pradesh showcased their prowess on the final day of the fourth Indian Open Throws Competition, which wrapped up here on Friday. Rohit Yadav secured the gold in the men’s javelin throw with an impressive distance of 78.87m, while Annu Rani, the Asian Games champion, triumphed in the women's division with a throw measuring 58.82m.
The men’s javelin event featured a fierce competition for the top spot, but Yadav emerged as the most consistent thrower, claiming gold with his first attempt of 78.87m. Shivpal Singh, an Olympian, made a strong finish with a silver medal throw of 77.00m, while Shashank Patil from Karnataka secured the bronze with a throw of 76.66m.
Among the contenders, Sahil Silwal finished fifth with a throw of 73.10m.
In the men’s U20 javelin throw, Dipanshu Sharma from Uttar Pradesh took home the gold, achieving a best throw of 68.43m. His initial throw of 66.85m set the pace, but it was his third throw that marked his best of the day.
In the men’s discus throw, Abhimanyu clinched the gold with a distance of 54.91m, followed closely by Nirbhay Singh at 54.60m and Bhartpreet Singh at 53.69m.
Damneet Singh won the men’s hammer throw with a distance of 65.69m, completing the podium with Vikrant Ramesh at 59.42m and Gurdev Singh at 59.01m. In the women’s hammer throw, Harshita Sehrawat took gold with 59.08m, while Mital Solanki and Ripudaman Kaur earned silver and bronze respectively.
