Uttarakhand Municipal Elections Scheduled for January 23; Results on January 25

Dehradun, December 23 (NationPress) The Election Commission has officially revealed the dates for the Uttarakhand Municipal elections, putting an end to ongoing speculation and setting up another showdown between the ruling BJP and the opposing Congress.

According to the election timeline disclosed by the commission, the entire electoral process will unfold over a month, commencing on December 27 and concluding with voting on January 23.

Candidate nominations will be accepted from December 27 until December 30, while the examination of nomination papers will take place from December 31 to January 1.

Candidates have the option to withdraw from the race for any reason until January 2.

Voters across municipal corporations, municipal councils, and Nagar Panchayats will participate in a single-phase election on January 23, with results to be announced on January 25.

Reports indicate that the mountainous state consists of 92 civic bodies, including 8 Municipal Corporations, 42 Municipal Councils, and 42 Nagar Panchayats. Of the 8 municipal corporations, the BJP currently governs 5.

Additionally, the commission has implemented some significant adjustments regarding reservations in civic bodies for the upcoming elections.

The post of Haldwani Mayor, previously reserved for the OBC community, will now be classified as a general seat, while the Almora mayoral position has been designated for OBC candidates in the forthcoming elections.

Political parties are ramping up their preparations for the civic polls, signaling an exciting electoral battle. The Congress aims to challenge the Pushkar Singh Dhami administration on numerous local issues, while the BJP is buoyed by its recent success in the Kedarnath Assembly by-elections.

The local body elections will conclude prior to the National Games in the state, which are scheduled to occur from January 28 to February 1.

Following the National Games, Devbhoomi will prepare for village and block panchayat elections, as their terms expired in November this year.
