Mumbai, Sep 17 (NationPress) Tension enveloped the Chhatrapati Shivaji Park area in Dadar on Wednesday morning after unknown individuals splashed red paint on the statue of the late Meenatai Thackeray, the wife of Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray and the mother of Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray.

A significant number of Shiv Sainiks and members of Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena gathered at the scene to vehemently denounce the act, calling for accountability from those who orchestrated it.

Raj Thackeray, who lives nearby, also visited the site. Shiv Sainiks took it upon themselves to clean the statue and demanded strict measures against the offenders.

Upon garlanding the statue, Uddhav Thackeray expressed his discontent, stating, “What transpired today is utterly reprehensible. There might be someone who feels ashamed to acknowledge their parents. This act seems to be an attempt to incite unrest in Maharashtra, reminiscent of the recent events in Bihar regarding PM Modi’s mother. The police are currently probing the matter, and we await developments.”

He further remarked, “The police have assured that they will uncover the identity of the perpetrator. However, it appears to be an individual lacking familial pride, trying to ignite chaos in Maharashtra. This mirrors an incident from 18 years ago, when emotions ran high. We urge Shiv Sainiks to remain composed.”

According to police reports, the incident occurred around 10 a.m. when red paint was discovered splattered on the statue of Meenatai Thackeray and its vicinity. This led to an aggressive reaction from Shiv Sena (UBT) workers, who condemned the act.

MNS chief Raj Thackeray, who sought information from the police on-site, instructed them to review all CCTV footage and identify the offenders within 24 hours.

Additionally, Neelam Gorhe, a leader from Shiv Sena and the Deputy Chairperson of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, condemned the desecration, labeling the perpetrator as having a twisted mindset, stressing that such actions are unjustifiable.

“There exists deep respect and admiration among the people of Maharashtra and Shiv Sainiks for Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray, Maa Saheb Meenatai Thackeray, and Prabodhankar Thackeray. I consulted with Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, who has promptly established three teams to commence an investigation. A case has been registered, and justice will be served swiftly,” Gorhe stated.

BJP legislator Pravin Darekar also condemned the occurrence, asserting that the police will identify those responsible.
