New Delhi, Oct 15 (NationPress) Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva expressed his approval of the Supreme Court’s ruling allowing the use of green firecrackers in Delhi during Diwali, attributing blame to the former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for being "anti-Hindu." In his statement, the Delhi BJP President emphasized that the party has consistently argued that the firecrackers used on the night of Diwali are not to blame for the rise in winter pollution.

“There are numerous other crucial factors contributing to this issue. Yet, the previous administration purposely targeted firecrackers as the source of pollution,” he stated.

He further remarked that the permission to celebrate Diwali with firecrackers for the Sanatanis in Delhi is a direct outcome of the voters' wise choices in the elections.

According to him, the former government led by Kejriwal, including Gopal Rai, epitomizes anti-Hindu leftist politics, having manipulated data that led to the Supreme Court's previous bans on firecrackers during Diwali.

“This year, Delhi has a government that values Sanatan traditions and presented the true circumstances to the Supreme Court, securing the green light for firecrackers during Diwali,” he added.

Significantly, the Supreme Court announced on Tuesday its decision to permit the limited sale and use of green crackers in Delhi and the adjacent National Capital Region (NCR) for Diwali, while issuing specific guidelines to closely monitor the sale and use of fireworks to avert pollution crises experienced in prior years.

The court stated that "commercial interests and the festive spirit should not overshadow environmental and health concerns," as a Bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai and Justice K. Vinod Chandran approved the sale of NEERI-approved green crackers from October 18 to October 20.

However, the CJI Gavai-led Bench has limited the permissible bursting times to 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the days surrounding Diwali.

Point of View

This ruling represents a crucial intersection of environmental policy and cultural practices. While the Supreme Court aims to balance health concerns with festive traditions, the political implications are equally significant. This decision has revived discussions on the role of fireworks in our celebrations and the narratives surrounding pollution, which must be approached with sensitivity and balance.
