Workers Registered on e-Shram Portal Surpasses 30.4 Crore

New Delhi, Dec 16 (NationPress) The total number of workers from the unorganised sector registered on the e-Shram Portal for gaining access to benefits from various welfare schemes provided by the Central government has dramatically increased to 30.4 crore, according to the Ministry of Labour and Employment on Monday.

The rate of registrations has been escalating swiftly, averaging 60,000 per day during October 2024, as per the official statement.

The e-Shram serves as a “One-Stop Solution”, offering access to multiple social security and welfare schemes all in one place. It was launched on August 26, 2021, with the aim of establishing a National Database of Unorganised Workers, verified through Aadhaar.

The portal encompasses several schemes, including the PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi), Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-Dhan Yojana (PMSYM), Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya (PMJAY), and Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY).

The PM Street Vendor's AtmaNirbhar Nidhi, which was initiated on June 1, 2020, now supports 67.43 lakh hawkers.

This scheme aims to offer collateral-free working capital loans to street vendors, helping them recover and regain self-reliance after their businesses were dramatically affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-Dhan Yojana (PMSYM) is a pension scheme that has enrolled over 45.75 lakh workers.

This initiative, introduced in 2019, aims to provide a minimum assured pension to workers in the unorganised sector, including migrants, once they reach the age of 60. The scheme targets those earning less than Rs 15,000 per month and guarantees a monthly pension of Rs 3,000 after they turn 60, ensuring their financial security.

Launched on September 23, 2018, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya health insurance scheme serves over 12 crore families (almost 55 crore individuals).

The PMJAY scheme offers Rs 5 lakh health coverage for secondary and tertiary health benefits to eligible migrant workers, based on deprivation and occupation criteria.

Remarkably, 11.9 lakh hospitalizations amounting to Rs 3,100 crore have been authorized under this portability feature, improving accessibility for beneficiaries nationwide, as stated by the officials.

Furthermore, the government's commitment to food security is reinforced by the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), which has been extended for an additional five years starting from January 1, 2024.

This program provides free food grains and direct cash transfers to families below the poverty line, including migrant workers.

Moreover, the One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) initiative, initiated in 2018, ensures food security through the portability of ration cards across India.

These initiatives collectively form a robust safety net for migrant workers, ensuring access to food security regardless of their location in the country. Migrant laborers can easily benefit from the ONORC scheme, as noted in the statement.
