New Delhi, Sep 9 (NationPress) Bollywood actor Ranvir Shorey has shared his thoughts on the ongoing discourse regarding cricket relations between India and Pakistan. He expressed that he is open to the two teams competing in multi-nation events like the Asia Cup.
In a relaxed conversation with IANS, Shorey emphasized that although he opposes the revival of bilateral series between the two nations, he believes there should be no complications in their matches on neutral grounds during international tournaments.
“I have no issue with India playing against Pakistan in the Asia Cup. Certainly, there shouldn’t be any bilateral series between them. India is not traveling to Pakistan, and Pakistan is not coming here—that’s perfectly acceptable. Since the game is occurring in a neutral venue, there shouldn’t be any problem. Just like in the Olympics, if India competes against Pakistan, that fixture cannot be disregarded,” Shorey mentioned.
The last bilateral series between India and Pakistan took place in 2012–13, and since then, political tensions and security issues have prevented any cricketing exchanges. Their encounters are now limited to ICC and ACC events, which consistently draw enormous global audiences.
Shorey, recognized for his forthright views on socio-political issues, likened cricket to other global sports, where athletes from both countries routinely compete. “This should be treated similarly to the Olympics or Asian Games, where India and Pakistan players inevitably meet,” he added.
His comments arise as tournaments like the Asia Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy once again bring the India-Pakistan cricketing dynamic into focus. While the overarching political discourse remains unresolved, Shorey’s practical viewpoint resonates with many supporters who savor the rivalry on the field but are cautious about a complete revival of bilateral series.
