Knoxville (USA), May 25 (NationPress) Indo-Canadian golfer Sudarshan Yellamaraju, in pursuit of his second victory this season, recorded a round of 67, adding to his previous scores of 65 and 68 at the Visit Knoxville Open. With a total of 13-under 200 over three days, he currently stands in Tied-fifth.
Yellamaraju achieved his second bogey-free round in three attempts, successfully birdieing four times, including once on the front nine at the seventh hole. He further added three more birdies on holes 12, 15, and 18.
Earlier this year, Yellamaraju secured his first win at the Bahamas Great Abaco Classic in January and finished sixth at the AdventHealth Championship last week.
Korea’s S.H. Kim shot a 66 after scores of 67 and 61 in the initial rounds, leading the tournament at 19-under, with a 16-under lead over Dylan Menante (60).
Born in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, the 23-year-old Yellamaraju relocated to Canada with his family when they moved to Winnipeg. Although his father worked near a golf course in Bengaluru, he initially showed no interest in the sport.
At just four years old, Sudarshan’s curiosity about golf sparked as he began playing with a plastic club set. He later progressed to the driving range and attended a 10-day Future Links camp after receiving a junior set of clubs. His passion for golf grew further after moving to Canada as he decided to pursue the sport professionally.
Yellamaraju attended the final rounds of the 2014 World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, where he closely followed golf legends like Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson, Rory McIlroy, and Sergio Garcia. If he performs well on the Korn Ferry Tour, this 23-year-old could gain exemptions to participate in PGA Tour events, bringing him closer to his dream of competing on the world’s premier golf stage.
