Leeds, Jan 13 (NationPress) Yorkshire has officially named Mick Lewis, the former Australian fast bowler, as the new bowling coach for the men's first team. Lewis transitions from his role at Essex, where he collaborated closely with Yorkshire's head coach, Anthony McGrath.

The county announced that Lewis has signed a three-year contract in preparation for the upcoming 2025 season, with plans to commence work ahead of the squad's pre-season tour to Abu Dhabi this March.

Prior to his tenure at Essex, Lewis served as the head bowling coach for the state team Victoria, achieving notable success, including four Sheffield Shield titles. His experience also spans the Big Bash League (BBL), where he played for both the Melbourne Stars and the Renegades.

Over a 14-year playing career, Lewis participated in 196 matches, claiming 435 wickets across all formats, highlighted by his debut international performance against New Zealand in 2005, where he recorded figures of 3-56.

“I am incredibly excited to join Yorkshire during such a thrilling period for the club. I look forward to collaborating with an excellent group of bowlers to help them achieve success in Division One and can’t wait to commence,” Lewis remarked. “The achievements of Ben Coad are well-documented, and I am eager to work with promising talents like Ben Cliff, George Hill, and Jafer Chohan.”

Head coach Anthony McGrath stated: “Mick brings a wealth of experience to this role and will provide immense value to all our bowlers. His impressive record speaks volumes, showcasing our club's ambition in securing such talent at Headingley.

“Our previous collaboration at Essex was fruitful, and I am excited for more success here in Yorkshire.”

“Everyone at Yorkshire is thrilled to welcome Mick to his new position. His proven track record in developing international-caliber bowlers will undoubtedly inspire our existing talent, who are eager to grow under his guidance,” said Gavin Hamilton, General Manager of Cricket.

“His addition to the coaching staff will provide immediate value, positioning us favorably for competition in 2025,” he concluded.
