Aizawl, Oct 29 (NationPress) Union Minister and senior BJP leader Jitendra Singh stated on Wednesday that the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) government has not efficiently executed Central schemes, consequently denying the citizens of Mizoram their rightful benefits.

Singh, who oversees the portfolios of Science and Technology and Earth Sciences as Minister of State (Independent Charge), remarked that the non-NDA government in Mizoram has not effectively implemented Central schemes, leading to the deprivation of the state's residents.

“While neighboring Northeastern states like Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh have experienced remarkable transformation over the last 11 years, Mizoram has been denied the chance to engage in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s primary focus for the region,” he shared with the media in Aizawl.

Singh is in Mizoram for a two-day visit to support the campaign for the BJP candidate for the Dampa Assembly seat, Lalhmangaiha.

The by-election for the Dampa Assembly seat in Mamit district is scheduled for November 11.

He mentioned, “A victory for BJP in the by-poll for the Dampa Assembly seat will signal the arrival of the NDA government in the next Assembly election.” The upcoming Assembly election for the 40-member House in Mizoram is set for December 2028.

Singh convened a strategy meeting with senior BJP leaders and office-bearers, including Mizoram state President K. Beichhua, to assess preparations for the November 11 bypoll and inspire party workers. He encouraged the cadres to disseminate PM Modi’s vision for the Northeast region to every household in Mizoram.

Expressing confidence in the BJP's success in the forthcoming Dampa bypoll, Singh stated, “The BJP has the potential to expand in the predominantly Christian state soon. The NDA government under PM Modi prioritizes the development of the Northeastern region and has fostered growth across various sectors.”

He emphasized that while many states have rapidly progressed under the Modi government, Mizoram has missed out on full benefits due to the absence of a BJP government in the state. A double-engine government would ensure faster development, improved implementation, and seamless service delivery to every citizen,” the visiting Union minister articulated in a post on X.

Singh is expected to address several election meetings in the Mamit district on Thursday.

Last week, Union Minister for Parliamentary and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju visited Mizoram for two days and campaigned for the BJP candidate Lalhmangaiha.

In addition to the BJP candidate, ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) nominee Vanlalsailova, a notable Mizo singer and preacher, main opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) candidate R. Lalthangliana, Congress’s John Rotluangliana, and Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC) candidate K. Zahmingthanga are also in the race for the November 11 by-poll, resulting in a five-cornered contest.

Prior to the Election Commission's announcement of the poll schedule on October 6, both ruling and opposition parties had already declared their candidates and initiated their campaigns in this politically significant constituency.

The Dampa Assembly seat in Mizoram’s Mamit district became vacant following the passing of opposition MNF legislator Lalrintluanga Sailo on July 21.
