Guwahati, Oct 31 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Friday that the Singapore government has sent the toxicology report concerning the death of the renowned singer and filmmaker Zubeen Garg to the Assam Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The report has not yet physically arrived in Guwahati, where the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is conducting an extensive investigation into the matter.
The Chief Minister stated that the SIT has achieved “substantial progress” in the investigation and is expected to file the chargesheet within the designated timeframe.
“The team is working tirelessly to ensure justice for Zubeen Garg,” Sarma expressed, showing confidence in the integrity and pace of the inquiry.
The passing of Zubeen Garg on September 19 in Singapore, during a yacht trip, shocked Assam and the entire Northeast region.
In light of his death, the state government launched a high-level investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding it.
His remains were returned to Guwahati, where a large number of fans gathered to offer their final respects. Recently, his ashes were immersed in the Brahmaputra by his wife, Garima Garg, and family members.
The SIT, comprised of senior CID officials, has already made several arrests concerning alleged evidence tampering linked to the case.
Those apprehended include festival organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, Garg's manager Siddharth Sarma, and two band members — Shekharjyoti Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta.
Additionally, Sandipan Garg, the late singer's cousin who was with him in Singapore, was also arrested along with two of Zubeen Garg's personal security officers. All individuals are currently in judicial custody.
Addressing public concerns and skepticism, CM Sarma urged citizens to maintain trust in the investigative process.
“Those questioning justice for Zubeen Garg should reevaluate their views before December 15. The SIT's diligent efforts will demonstrate the truth,” he asserted.
Sarma also cautioned against politicizing this sensitive case.
“Some individuals have rushed to conclusions, but justice will be served,” he stated.
In a separate comment, the Chief Minister directed criticism at political opponents, accusing Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi of “acting as a Pakistani agent.”
Sarma claimed to have evidence but stated he would act only after the current investigations and elections are concluded.
