17.80 Lakh New Employees Registered Under ESIC in October, Marking a 3% Increase

New Delhi, Dec 18 (NationPress) A total of 17.80 lakh new employees have joined the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) scheme in October this year, according to a report released by the Ministry of Labour and Employment on Wednesday.

The year-on-year comparison indicates a 3% growth in net registrations compared to October of the previous year.

The statistics reveal that among the 17.80 lakh employees added this month, approximately 8.50 lakh individuals, which is around 47.75% of the total registrations, belong to the age group of up to 25 years.

The Labour Ministry has reported that 21,588 new establishments were incorporated under the social security framework of the ESI Scheme in October, thereby enhancing social security for additional workers.

Gender-specific analysis of the payroll data shows that the net enrolment of female members reached 3.52 lakh in October. Additionally, a total of 42 transgender employees have also registered under the ESI Scheme, demonstrating the commitment of ESIC to extend its benefits to all segments of society. The ministry noted that this payroll data remains provisional as data collection is an ongoing process.

In September, 20.58 lakh new employees were enrolled under the ESIC scheme, highlighting the increasing number of jobs being generated in India's organized sector. The government is also working towards integrating the ESIC with Ayushman Bharat- Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).

This integration will provide medical care benefits to 14.43 crore ESI beneficiaries, allowing them to access secondary and tertiary medical services at over 30,000 AB-PMJAY-empanelled hospitals across the country.

These benefits can be availed with no financial limits on treatment costs.

Currently, the ESI Scheme offers medical services through 165 hospitals, 1,590 dispensaries, 105 dispensary-cum-branch-offices (DCBOs), and around 2,900 empanelled private hospitals. Over the past decade, the ESI scheme has been implemented in 687 districts out of 788 districts in the country, expanding from 393 districts in 2014.
