New Delhi, July 13 (NationPress) In a significant advancement for higher education and technology in India, Aditya Birla Group Chairman and BITS Pilani Chancellor Kumar Mangalam Birla announced an investment of Rs 2,200 crore aimed at three transformative initiatives.
These initiatives encompass the establishment of an innovative AI campus in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, the enhancement and modernization of current BITS campuses under Project Vistaar, and the rollout of a new educational technology platform—BITS Pilani Digital.
This announcement was made during the convocation ceremony of BITS Pilani, which also featured former Chief Justice DY Chandrachud.
During his address, Birla emphasized that these new initiatives embody the group's unwavering dedication to revolutionizing higher education in both physical and digital realms.
He stated that these endeavors are not merely about expansion but aim to forge a robust ecosystem that fosters learning, stimulates innovation, and contributes to inclusive national growth.
Birla also highlighted that these projects align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of creating a trillion-dollar academic ecosystem and preparing India for a digital, global future.
“These initiatives will set the groundwork for India’s knowledge economy, in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of a trillion-dollar academic ecosystem and preparing the nation for a digital, global future,” he stated.
Of the total investment, approximately Rs 1,219 crore will be directed towards expanding and upgrading infrastructure at BITS Pilani’s campuses located in Pilani, Goa, and Hyderabad.
This expansion, via Project Vistaar, aims to boost research capabilities, enhance student experiences, and promote global collaborations.
Meanwhile, Rs 1,000 crore will be allocated to the development of the new AI+ Campus in Amaravati, envisioned as a next-generation innovation hub centered around artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
The AI+ Campus in Amaravati will span 35 acres and will be developed in two phases.
The first phase will accommodate 3,000 students, focusing on core academics and enriching student life.
In the second phase, the campus will expand to support over 7,000 students, introducing advanced research centers, global collaboration zones, and dedicated entrepreneurship hubs.
Project Vistaar will also modernize existing BITS campuses, with Rs 60 crore specifically earmarked for upgrading undergraduate laboratories.
