New Delhi, June 16 (NationPress) An Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner flight is currently undergoing technical inspections after it returned to Hong Kong on Monday shortly after taking off for Delhi due to a technical malfunction, the airline reported.
The airline confirmed in a statement that the aircraft, designated as AI315, landed safely and all passengers are receiving necessary assistance.
An Air India representative stated that the flight turned back as a precautionary measure after the pilot identified a potential issue mid-flight.
"The flight landed safely in Hong Kong and is undergoing checks as a precautionary measure," the spokesperson remarked.
"Alternative travel arrangements are being organized to transport the passengers to Delhi as quickly as possible," the airline added.
Air India also assured that all essential support is being provided on the ground to lessen the disruption caused by this unexpected incident.
This situation arises amidst increased scrutiny following the unfortunate crash of flight AI171 last week. That flight, also operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, tragically crashed shortly after its departure from Ahmedabad to London.
The aircraft impacted a doctors' hostel at BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad, leading to the loss of 241 lives out of 242 on board, along with casualties on the ground.
The sole survivor, Vishwashkumar Ramesh, is currently receiving medical treatment.
In a statement released on Sunday, Air India expressed profound appreciation to the Central and Gujarat governments for their support following the AI171 disaster.
The airline also recognized the dedicated efforts of medical professionals and staff at Ahmedabad’s Civil and Rajasthan Hospitals, alongside the unwavering support from Tata Group companies to the victims' families.
Last week, Air India announced an interim compensation of Rs 25 lakh for each family affected by the tragic AI171 plane crash in Ahmedabad.
The same amount will be extended to the lone survivor as well. This compensation is in addition to the Rs 1 crore financial aid already pledged by Tata Sons.
