New Delhi, May 28 (NationPress) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has officially sanctioned the development of the four-lane Badvel-Nellore corridor with an investment of Rs 3,653.10 crore in Andhra Pradesh.
This corridor, stretching over 108.134 km, will be built utilizing the design-build-finance-operate-transfer (DBFOT) model, as stated by the CCEA following a meeting.
It is expected that the project will create approximately 20 lakh man-days of direct employment along with 23 lakh man-days of indirect employment.
The newly approved Badvel-Nellore corridor will enhance connectivity to key nodes within the three industrial corridors of Andhra Pradesh: the Kopparthy Node on the Vishakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC), the Orvakal Node on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (HBIC), and the Krishnapatnam Node on the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC).
According to the CCEA, "This initiative will positively influence the Logistics Performance Index (LPI) of India."
The corridor commences from Gopavaram village along the existing National Highway NH-67 in the YSR Kadapa district and concludes at the Krishnapatnam Port Junction on NH-16 (Chennai-Kolkata) within the SPSR Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh.
It will also facilitate strategic access to the Krishnapatnam Port, designated as a priority node under the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC).
The proposed corridor is set to cut travel distance to Krishnapatnam port by 33.9 km, reducing it from 142 km to 108.13 km compared to the existing route.
As stated by the CCEA, "This will not only decrease travel time by one hour but also result in significant savings in fuel consumption, thereby lowering the carbon footprint and Vehicle Operating Cost (VOC)."
The four-lane Badvel-Nellore corridor project is anticipated to generate additional employment opportunities through heightened economic activity in the region surrounding the corridor, the Cabinet added.
