Los Angeles, Oct 29 (NationPress) The ‘Cheap Thrills’ singer Sia has made serious accusations against her estranged spouse, Daniel Bernad.

The artist claims her ex-husband is “weaponising” her past addiction struggles amidst their custody dispute, according to reports from ‘Female First UK’.

Following her divorce filing in March after two years of marriage, Sia had been awarded full custody of their 19-month-old son, Somersault Wonder, affectionately known as Summi. However, Daniel, a former radiation oncologist, recently sought sole legal and physical custody.

In documents obtained by ‘People’ magazine, Daniel accused the 49-year-old star of being a “serious and immediate danger” to Summi, labeling her an “unfit and unreliable parent” grappling with substance abuse. He alleged that Sia had been secretly hospitalized for two weeks last month and had tested positive for barbiturates and benzodiazepines.

Daniel’s declaration stated, “Sia’s conduct is reckless, dangerous and demonstrates Sia’s utter disregard for Summi’s safety and well-being.”

In response, Sia filed her own declaration the same day, requesting the court to deny her estranged husband’s claim for sole custody and refuting his drug abuse allegations. She asserted that Daniel, who she previously accused of being under investigation for child sexual abuse materials, has “zero evidence” that their son is in danger.

Sia contended that the allegations regarding her substance abuse are “entirely unfounded and misleading”, emphasizing that while she faced challenges with drugs and alcohol over 15 years ago, she has been sober for over six months. Although Daniel’s filing demanded that Sia undergo random drug testing three times monthly and regular weekly tests, she revealed that she is already part of a program that includes weekly testing and a sober companion, stating that Daniel has “refused” to participate in similar checks.

She explained, “My recovery has been a cornerstone of my life and one of the primary reasons I chose to separate from Dan, whose ongoing engagement in a nightlife and recreational drug-use lifestyle is incompatible with a healthy environment for our child.” Sia criticized his actions, declaring that Daniel’s attempts to weaponise her past sobriety journey serve no legitimate purpose and are intended only to distort the facts and undermine her credibility in court.

“His willingness to dredge up decades-old history to serve his own financial and strategic interests demonstrates the extent to which he will go, even at the expense of his child and the child’s mother,” she added.
