New Delhi/New York, March 23 (NationPress) An Indian-origin woman has been taken into custody for the alleged murder of her 11-year-old son following a three-day trip to Disneyland in California.
The suspect, identified as Saritha Ramaraju, 48, reportedly fatally harmed the boy by slitting his throat, as stated by the Santa Ana Police Department.
According to the police, "On Wednesday, we got a call from a woman claiming she had stabbed her son in a room at the La Quinta Inn & Suites in Santa Ana and had consumed an unknown substance."
Authorities arrived at the location to discover the 11-year-old boy deceased in a hotel room, surrounded by various Disneyland memorabilia.
The child was pronounced dead at the scene, while Ramaraju was taken to a hospital. She was released from medical care on Thursday and subsequently arrested.
Ramaraju faces charges of murder, child endangerment, torture, and aggravated mayhem, with a potential prison sentence of up to 26 years if convicted.
Notably, Ramaraju did not enter a plea at her indictment.
Authorities revealed that the boy was killed several hours prior to Ramaraju's call to the Santa Ana Police.
A large kitchen knife used in the incident has been confiscated.
Ramaraju, who divorced her husband in 2018, killed her son on March 19, the same day she was supposed to return him to his father, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer commented, "The safest place for a child should be in their parents' arms. Instead of embracing her son with love, she took his life, cruelly removing him from the world he was born into."
He further stated, "A child's life should not be at risk due to parental conflict overshadowing their love for the child."
