Shillong, June 11 (NationPress) Sonam Raghuvanshi, identified as the main suspect in the shocking murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, has admitted to her participation in the crime during a police interrogation, as reported by IANS on Wednesday.
Sources indicate that Sonam confessed to planning the murder when questioned by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) earlier today.
This admission was also officially documented in the presence of Meghalaya Police officials, affirming her direct role in the crime, according to the sources.
On the same day, five individuals, including Sonam Raghuvanshi, her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha, and accomplices Anand Kurmi, Akash Rajput, and Vishal Singh Chauhan, were brought before a court in Shillong after extensive interrogations by the SIT.
Authorities disclosed that three alleged contract killers—Akash, Anand, and Vikash—traveled from Indore to Shillong in staggered phases to evade detection.
Their movements were tracked through CCTV footage, train ticket bookings, and photocopies of their Aadhaar cards, which aided law enforcement in confirming their identities and tracing their route to Meghalaya.
Investigators reported that the assailants joined the couple on a trek on May 23, masquerading as fellow tourists.
Albert Pde, a local guide, stated that he had offered help to the group but was declined.
He also mentioned that the group spoke in Hindi and intentionally chose a secluded and challenging trekking route, avoiding the popular tourist destination of the Double Decker Living Root Bridge.
Sonam Raghuvanshi was detained after surrendering at the Nandganj police station in Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh early Monday morning.
Her surrender came after a relentless, coordinated multi-state police operation involving law enforcement from Meghalaya, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
Officials stated that Sonam conspired to murder her husband and enlisted contract killers to carry out the execution during their honeymoon.
The other suspects were captured during a series of police raids across Madhya Pradesh.
