Shillong, June 19 (NationPress) In a shocking development surrounding the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, police investigations have uncovered that his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, the main suspect, was frequently communicating with her lover Raj Kushwaha -- saved in her contacts as 'Sanjay Verma' -- both prior to and following their marriage.
The Meghalaya Police reported that Sonam made and received over 239 calls from Raj's number within a span of just 39 days.
Authorities confirmed that this 'Sanjay Verma' is indeed Raj Kushwaha, who was employed as an accountant at the furniture sheet unit owned by Sonam's family in Indore.
He has now been identified as the co-conspirator and the mastermind behind the murder plot.
Investigators suspect that Sonam intentionally saved Raj's contact under a different name to prevent suspicion. His mobile phone has been deactivated since the case began to unfold.
Sonam's brother, Govind, responded to the revelations, stating, 'I don't know anything about Sanjay Verma. I just learned that his name is also surfacing.'
He further stressed that the family has severed all ties with Sonam and supports the victim's family in their pursuit of justice.
This murder has sent shockwaves throughout the nation. What once seemed like a case of two missing individuals took a sinister turn when the body of Raja Raghuvanshi was discovered in the dense forests of Meghalaya, not far from Nongriat village, where the couple was last seen.
The two had checked out from a homestay on May 23, just 12 days after their wedding in Indore, with Raja's body being recovered on June 2.
According to police reports, Sonam had a pre-existing relationship with Raj even before her marriage. Despite the ongoing affair, she proceeded with the wedding and organized a honeymoon trip to the northeast.
However, this trip was part of a nefarious scheme to eliminate Raja. Police investigations disclosed that Sonam hired three contract killers -- Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi -- to execute the murder.
Her cousin, Jitendra Raghuvanshi, is said to have facilitated the initial payment to the hitmen.
After days of being untraceable, Sonam reappeared on June 8 in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur district and surrendered at the Nandganj police station.
This surrender occurred just hours after the three hitmen were apprehended from various locations in Uttar Pradesh, Indore, and Sagar. Raj Kushwaha was arrested shortly thereafter.
On June 11, during police questioning, Sonam purportedly admitted to orchestrating her husband's murder.
This murder, filled with deception and betrayal, has captivated national attention, especially due to the intricate planning and disturbing involvement of multiple individuals close to the accused.
Govind reiterated the family's commitment to support Raja's family, stating, 'We have no connection with Sonam anymore. What she has done is unforgivable. Our full support is with Raja's family, and we will assist them in their quest for justice.'
