Ghazipur, June 9 (NationPress) Sahil Yadav, the proprietor of Kashi Dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur roadway in Uttar Pradesh, has shared significant insights regarding the tense moments when Sonam Raghuvanshi approached him early Monday, just hours before her arrest linked to her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi's murder.
Sonam, who is alleged to have plotted the murder of her husband during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, reportedly sought Yadav's assistance around 1 a.m., asking for a mobile device to reach out to her family.
"At approximately 1 a.m. last night, Sonam Raghuvanshi was seen walking along the roadside and approached me for help. She requested a mobile phone. When I inquired about the situation, she claimed her phone was stolen and that it was urgent. She provided me with a number, and I called for her. She spoke to her family," Yadav informed IANS.
"She was sobbing uncontrollably, making it difficult for her to articulate. She requested water, which I provided. Since she was unable to communicate clearly, I also spoke to her family. They asked me to contact the nearest police station for her safety," he recounted.
After some time, I asked her what transpired. She explained that they had married in May, and during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, Raja was murdered while attempting to shield her from a group of men who attempted to steal her jewelry. She added that she couldn't recall how she arrived in Uttar Pradesh.
Shortly after the call to her family, the local police were notified, and Sonam turned herself in at the Nandganj police station in Ghazipur.
Uttar Pradesh ADG (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash confirmed that Sonam was found at Kashi Dhaba and was first taken to Sadar Hospital for a medical assessment. She is currently residing at the One Stop Centre in Ghazipur.
The police in Meghalaya assert that Sonam surrendered under duress as the investigation, spanning multiple states, intensified. Meghalaya IGP Dalton P. Marak confirmed to IANS that she will be returned to the state for further questioning and legal proceedings.
In addition to Sonam, authorities have detained her alleged boyfriend Raj Singh Kushwaha along with Vishal Singh Chauhan from Indore, Aakash Rajput from Lalitpur, and Anand from Sagar (Bina).
Investigations are ongoing as officials monitor new developments.
Earlier reports indicated that Sonam had been involved with Raj Kushwaha prior to her marriage, and he is suspected of planning the murder.
The body of Raja Raghuvanshi was discovered in a gorge beneath the Weisawdong Parking Lot in Meghalaya, with a machete believed to be the murder weapon found nearby.
