Shillong, June 11 (NationPress) - The Chief of the Meghalaya Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been interrogating Sonam Raghuvanshi and other suspects in the shocking murder case of Raja Raghuvanshi, which has left the community reeling, at the Sadar Police Station in Shillong.

All five suspects were questioned prior to their court appearance.

Sonam Raghuvanshi has been taken into custody for allegedly plotting the horrific murder of her husband during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. She was transported to Shillong under strict security measures late Tuesday, with plans to present her in court the following day.

On June 7, Sonam surrendered to the police in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. Following her arrest, she was transported by road to Patna, then flown to Kolkata, and subsequently to Guwahati.

Upon arrival at Guwahati airport, she was discreetly escorted through the cargo area and taken to the Sadar Police Station in Shillong, where she spent the night following a mandatory medical examination at Ganesh Das Hospital.

Vivek Syiem, Superintendent of Police for East Khasi Hills, mentioned that the Meghalaya Police secured a six-day transit remand for the suspects captured in Madhya Pradesh and a three-day remand for those apprehended in Uttar Pradesh.

“All suspects are being brought to Shillong separately for their court appearances,” he added.

Four additional suspects — Raj Kushwaha, alleged to be Sonam’s lover and the mastermind, along with Anand Kurmi, Akash Rajput, and Vishal Singh Chauhan — were also brought to the Meghalaya capital earlier that day and will remain in custody until their court hearing.

As the four suspects were escorted by police at Indore airport, a scene of public outrage erupted when an angry passenger slapped one of the masked suspects. The identity of the person who was attacked remains undisclosed.

Sonam and Raja were married on May 11, and just nine days later, on May 20, they set off for their honeymoon in Meghalaya with a one-way ticket. By May 23, the newlyweds had vanished.

A search operation was launched, and on June 4, Raja's body was found in a deep gorge, shocking the nation.

After several days of investigation, Sonam was arrested, marking a pivotal moment in what authorities have deemed 'Operation Honeymoon' — a special 20-member task force established to locate the individuals involved in this gruesome crime.

All five suspects are now subject to additional investigation under the jurisdiction of the Meghalaya Police.
