Shillong, June 11 (NationPress) The main suspect in the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case, Sonam Raghuvanshi, alongside four other individuals, has been placed in separate cells at the Sadar police station in Shillong following a court's decision to remand all five suspects into eight days of police custody, as reported by sources.
Sources revealed that Raj Singh Kushwaha (21), Sonam's alleged partner, and Akash Rajput (19) were housed in one cell, while Vishal Singh Chauhan (22) and Anand Singh Kurmi (23) were in another. “The police provided a meal to Sonam (wife of the murdered Madhya Pradesh tourist Raja Raghuvanshi), which she consumed. She appeared notably calm both before and after her court appearance,” the sources indicated.
According to the information available, numerous CCTV cameras have been installed throughout the Sadar police station and its cells to closely observe the accused's conduct.
Under stringent security measures, all five individuals implicated in this shocking murder case were presented before the district and session court in Shillong on Wednesday, almost ten days after the discovery of Sonam's husband's body, Raja Raghuvanshi, on June 2, found in a deep gorge beneath the Wei Sawdong parking area at Riat Arliang in the East Khasi Hills district, a revelation that sent ripples across the nation.
A police representative stated that upon fulfilling several medical and legal requirements, the accused were brought before the court with a request for an eight-day remand for further interrogation and investigation. Following the recovery of Raja's remains, the Meghalaya Police established Special Investigation Teams and initiated 'Operation Honeymoon', with multiple teams dispatched to Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Through collaboration with local law enforcement in these states, they successfully apprehended the five suspects.
These individuals will now undergo further scrutiny under the jurisdiction of the Meghalaya Police. Sonam has been accused of allegedly masterminding the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi (29), during their honeymoon in the scenic regions of Meghalaya's Sohra-Cherrapunji areas in the East Khasi Hills district.
Following the discovery of her husband's body, Sonam surrendered to the police in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, on June 7. She was then transported to Patna by road, subsequently flown to Kolkata, and finally to Guwahati. From Guwahati airport, she was taken to the Sadar police station in Shillong by road late on Tuesday night. The other four suspects were also brought to Shillong on Wednesday.
