What Will Be Revealed Next in the Sonam Raghuvanshi Case?

Shillong, June 9 (NationPress) The Meghalaya Police have announced that further details will be disclosed shortly regarding the perplexing murder case of Indore-based entrepreneur Raja Raghuvanshi. His spouse, Sonam Raghuvanshi, is set to be transported to Meghalaya for judicial proceedings and in-depth questioning.

Sonam was taken into custody early Monday in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur district after voluntarily surrendering at the Nandganj police station. Authorities confirmed that she has been arrested for allegedly plotting her husband's murder during their honeymoon in the state by hiring contract killers.

The Meghalaya Police reported that she surrendered under increasing pressure from the investigation. Additionally, three of her supposed accomplices have also been detained—two from Indore and one from Lalitpur—while one suspect remains at large.

In an official statement, the Meghalaya Police expressed satisfaction with the significant progress made in the inquiry into the recent case involving a honeymooning couple from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, who went missing in the East Khasi Hills district in May 2025.

"Following extensive investigative efforts and coordination across multiple states, three individuals have been arrested in connection with this case—two from Indore and one from Lalitpur. These arrests represent a crucial step in uncovering the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of Shri Raja Raghuvanshi and the subsequent disappearance of his wife, Smt. Sonam Raghuvanshi," the statement noted.

Confirming Sonam's surrender, the police stated, "She is currently in the safe custody of the Uttar Pradesh Police, with all legal protocols being followed for her transit and formal statement."

"We sincerely appreciate the families, the citizens of Meghalaya, and our inter-state counterparts for their cooperation and support during this intricate investigation. Further updates will be shared as the legal proceedings progress," the statement continued.

In a conversation with IANS, Meghalaya Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dalton P. Marak mentioned, "Sonam surrendered under pressure last night, bringing the total number of arrests in this case to four. One suspect remains at large. Sonam will be returned to Meghalaya for court proceedings."

Uttar Pradesh ADG (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash revealed that Sonam was located at Kashi Dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur main road and was initially taken to Sadar Hospital for a medical evaluation. She is currently at the One Stop Centre in Ghazipur.

The Meghalaya Police credited the significant breakthrough to its Special Investigation Team (SIT), which received support from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local intelligence networks, and collaboration with other state law enforcement agencies.

"Despite geographical and logistical challenges, along with sustained public and media scrutiny, our teams remained committed to upholding the rule of law," the police stated in their announcement.

Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP) Idashisha Nongrang confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.

The police urged the public and media to avoid speculation and allow the legal process to unfold.

The couple, Raja and Sonam, had traveled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon and were exploring various locations when they vanished on May 23.

Ten days later, Raja's body was recovered from a deep gorge beneath the Weisawdong Parking Lot at Riat Arliang, with a machete, believed to be the murder weapon, found nearby.

At the time, Sonam had also gone missing, prompting a multi-state search.
