Ghazipur, June 9 (NationPress) In a startling development regarding the enigmatic death of Raja Raghuvanshi from Indore during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, authorities confirmed on Monday the arrest of his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, for allegedly plotting his murder by hiring contract killers.
Meghalaya Police reported that Sonam was located in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, where she voluntarily surrendered to the Nandganj police station.
Officials stated, "One individual was apprehended in Uttar Pradesh, while two others were arrested in Indore by the SIT. Sonam surrendered at the Nandganj police station and was taken into custody afterward," adding that one more suspect remains at large.
Meghalaya's Director General of Police (DGP), Idashisha Nongrang, indicated that the probe is ongoing, and the detained individuals are being interrogated for additional information.
Meghalaya's Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma, acknowledged the significant progress in the case.
In a post on X, he remarked, "In just seven days, a substantial breakthrough has been made by the Meghalaya Police in the Raja murder investigation...three assailants from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested, the female has surrendered, and efforts continue to apprehend one more suspect...great job."
The couple, Raja and Sonam, had traveled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon and were exploring various sites when they disappeared on May 23.
Ten days later, Raja's body was discovered in a deep gorge beneath the Weisawdong Parking Lot at Riat Arliang. A machete, believed to be the murder weapon, was found in close proximity.
At that time, Sonam had also vanished, prompting a multi-state search.
As the investigation progressed, both families of Raja and Sonam expressed serious concerns regarding the inquiry. They called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, alleging negligence on the part of Meghalaya police.
They highlighted CCTV footage and GPS data from a scooty indicating the presence of three to four individuals with the couple, claims that local authorities allegedly failed to investigate.
Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, also commented on the case, urging Union Home Minister Amit Shah to initiate a CBI inquiry to ensure justice.
