Indore, June 9 (NationPress) Three suspects have been detained in relation to the enigmatic murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, namely Akash, Raja Kushwaha, and Vishal Chauhan, as reported by Rajesh Dandotia, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Indore, on Monday.
Dandotia indicated that these arrests were conducted following a request from the Meghalaya Police. “Two individuals -- Akash and Raja Kushwaha -- were detained during a collaborative operation late Sunday night in Indore. The third suspect, Vishal Chauhan, was captured in Lalitpur district, Uttar Pradesh,” he elaborated.
Furthermore, Dandotia confirmed that Raja Raghuvanshi’s wife, Sonam, who had been missing after his death, was located in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. “She is now under the protective custody of Uttar Pradesh Police. Necessary legal procedures are being adhered to for her transportation and the formal documentation of her statement,” he added.
Earlier, the Meghalaya Police had released a statement affirming the arrests and the significant progress made in the investigation. “Following thorough inquiries and multi-agency collaboration, three individuals have been detained -- two from Indore and one from Lalitpur. These arrests signify a major step forward in clarifying the events surrounding Raja Raghuvanshi’s unfortunate death and the subsequent disappearance of his wife, Sonam,” the statement noted.
It was also mentioned that Sonam voluntarily turned herself in at the Nandganj police station in Ghazipur.
Meanwhile, Vipul, Raja Raghuvanshi’s brother, has raised concerns regarding the investigation. “While the Meghalaya Police claim to have resolved the case, they have not provided us with the post-mortem report. Until Sonam confesses, we cannot accept their narrative,” he stated.
Both families have categorically denied any involvement of Sonam in Raja’s murder.
Devi Singh, Sonam’s father, informed reporters that he discovered her location early Monday. “I was told that Sonam was found at a hotel in Ghazipur at around 5 a.m. She first contacted her brother, Govind, in Meghalaya via WhatsApp video call. She arrived at the hotel at approximately 1 a.m. and called him at 2 a.m.,” he shared.
When asked how Sonam ended up in Ghazipur, he replied, “I am unsure how she got there, but I firmly believe my daughter is innocent. She would never harm her husband.”
He further criticized the Meghalaya government for negligence. “They failed to ensure the safety of my daughter and son-in-law during their honeymoon. Now, to conceal their failures, they are attempting to frame her. The Meghalaya government has been deceptive from the outset,” Singh concluded.
