Ghazipur, June 9 (NationPress) In a shocking development concerning the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, an Indore resident who was tragically killed during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, reports are surfacing that his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, was involved in an extramarital affair with a man named Raj Kushwaha.
Kushwaha is being described as the primary suspect behind the murder, according to sources who spoke on Monday. This revelation has heightened the scrutiny surrounding this sensational case that has captivated the nation.
As per insiders, Raj Kushwaha, who is five years younger than Sonam and had a relationship with her prior to her marriage, allegedly plotted with her to assassinate Raja.
Call records have unveiled a pattern of consistent communication between Raj and Sonam, which served as a pivotal lead in the collaborative investigation by the Indore and Shillong police. Raj Kushwaha has been detained based on this evidence.
Authorities are still awaiting official confirmation, as the Meghalaya Police stated that more updates will be provided soon.
On Monday, Meghalaya Police confirmed that Sonam had been apprehended in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, after she surrendered at the Nandganj police station.
She faces allegations of orchestrating her husband's murder by hiring contract killers. Police indicated that her surrender followed persistent pressure from the multi-state investigation.
The three suspects alleged to have carried out the murder — Vicky Thakur, Anand, and Akash — were reportedly employed by Sonam and Raj Kushwaha.
Sources further revealed that Sonam had intentionally selected Meghalaya as their honeymoon location, booking only one-way tickets. The plot to kill Raja was evidently premeditated.
The couple went missing on May 23, triggering a search operation.
Ten days later, Raja's body was found in a deep gorge beneath the Weisawdong Parking Lot at Riat Arliang.
A machete, believed to be the weapon used in the murder, was retrieved near the site.
At the time, Sonam was also unaccounted for, prompting a multi-state manhunt.
In a statement to IANS, Meghalaya IGP Dalton P. Marak mentioned, "Sonam surrendered under pressure last night, raising the total number of arrests in this case to four. One individual remains at large. Sonam will be returned to Meghalaya for judicial proceedings."
Uttar Pradesh ADG (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash informed that Sonam was located at the Kashi Dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur main road and subsequently taken to Sadar Hospital for a medical check-up. She is presently being held at the One Stop Centre in Ghazipur.
Meghalaya DGP Idashisha Nongrang indicated that the investigation is ongoing, with detained individuals being interrogated for further leads.
Coordinated raids are currently taking place in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh to locate the remaining suspects.
This case, which originally seemed like a missing person report, escalated rapidly following the discovery of Raja's body.
Families of both Raja and Sonam have expressed concerns regarding the management of the case by Meghalaya police, demanding a CBI investigation. They have cited CCTV footage and GPS data from a rented scooter that purportedly indicated the presence of three to four individuals with the couple — evidence they believe was initially disregarded by the authorities.
Meghalaya Police have urged the media and public to refrain from speculation and assured that justice will be served.
